Lid will require careful handeling.

The bowl looks very nice, however the glass lid will require very careful handling to prevent breakage. (see pictures I uploaded in customer images) The glass is not very thick (1/8") and appears that it would not take much abuse in the sink before it gets broken. The handle screw is also ceramic so careful attention will be needed as to not over tighten when replacing after washing. I do not recall if the glass is tempered or not. Sorry.I purchased this as a trial to see how I liked this style over the traditional lids with the handle molded into the glass before I purchased the larger sets. As for me personally, I'm happy I did not buy the larger set of this particular style as I would have been disappointed with the type of glass top. But with that said, the bowl and lid looks great together and I'm sure with careful handling will look nice to any dinner set.If you're clumsy in the kitchen such as myself, I might would pass this one up for the ones with the thicker glass tops or something not as fragile. I'm really not sure what a fair rating would be, because as I've mentioned above, the bowl and lid really looks nice together.All the best,Kenny

I ordered this specifically as a hostess gift. I was heading over to our cousin's house for Christmas Eve and I wanted to bring a special dip. However, I'm not the type who sits around waiting for my dish to be returned. This Corningware casserole was the perfect size for the dip, it traveled well, and the price was perfect so that I could leave the party at a decent hour without bothering to collect my dish...I told the hostess to keep it and enjoy it. No worries.
