When this arrived, it looked much bigger than I'd imagined it would be. But once I sat it out on the counter it looked perfect. I set out to find a butter dish that 1) had a handle and 2)was big enough to hold a stick of butter without getting it all over the sides & making a mess. This fit my criteria. It is well made, sturdy, and it's super cute. I don't have a "country" themed kitchen... it's fairly modernish with stainless steel appliances & accessories, but this is still a perfect fit. Highly recommend.

We love the cow butter dish. Easy to lift the top off, It's a bit bigger and heavier than I thought. But we are getting used to that. I do like it.

Why have a plain old rectangular butter dish when you can have one shaped like a cow? This makes me smile every time I see it.Having said that, there are some impracticalities precisely because of said amusing bovine form. The cow shape fits one stick of butter quite snugly. So, if you move the cow lid sideways even a little while lifting it, you will smear the butter. It is somewhat heavy (like most ceramic butter dishes). That plus the shape means that you will need 2 hands to move the dish around. I just leave mine on the table so it doesn't bother me.Also, there is no handle on the lid so I end up grabbing the cow by the head (insert "grab bull by the horns" joke) in order to gain access to my precious butter. The cow then has to rest on its side on the table while I anoint my bread with an obscene amount of cow cholesterol because the bottom is now covered with butter (see previous point about smearing).Still, 4 stars for amusement factor.
